OpenAI's video generation app Sora surpassed one million downloads within five days of its late September launch, outpacing ChatGPT's initial adoption rate. The iOS-exclusive tool, currently accessible via invite codes, topped Apple's App Store rankings despite limited availability. Project lead Bill Peebles confirmed the milestone on X, noting the team is scaling infrastructure to meet explosive demand for the prompt-to-video platform.

The rapid adoption comes with growing pains. The Motion Picture Association has flagged copyright violations as users generate videos featuring copyrighted characters like SpongeBob SquarePants. MPA CEO Charles Rivkin demands immediate action, asserting clear infringement under existing copyright law. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has pledged forthcoming policy adjustments to address these concerns.
